Join me for tip 11, a posture tip! Grab a theraband and a chair.. Let’s go!
Let’s take a seat.. And bring awareness to our spine today. Spinal mobility is super important, yet how often do we think about it? Some of the benefits of increasing spine mobility, especially in the thoracic spine (upper back)
- Better range of motion throughout the upper body
- A less-rounded upper back
- Improves lung capacity, enabling us to breathe easier
Freeing up those shoulders again with some of my favourite movements – These ones can be challenging. Let me know how you find them.
We focus on activating the lower traps to help stabilise the shoulder blades during overhead movements. When our lower traps are weak our upper trapezius muscles turn on and engage more often than they should. Your upper trapezius (upper trap) is the muscle that helps elevate and upwardly rotate the scapula and extend the neck. When the upper trap has no support from the mid or low trapezius fibers it can become overworked and therefore very tight, affecting our posture for dance.
Focusing on the internal and external rotation of our shoulders.
A great activation exercise for opening up our posture.. We activate those muscles in our mid and upper back today. Please listen to the cues given.
Repeating week one upper body flow and moving on to our activation exercise – Prone W’s.
Many of you are Feising, upping your dance classes and home practice right now. Please take some time for recovery and a check in with how you feel in mind, body and spirit – open those journals as we reflect on the week and then move through a lovely sequence for posture x
Another very important class with Fran – looking into all things lower back and that anterior pelvic tilt we see so often in dancers x
A great class for opening up those shoulders & relieving any tension in the upper body. Beautiful for posture and confidence.
